European Textile Machinery Industry is a fore fighter for more a sustainable textile industry. It supports the EU transition pathway towards a more sustainable textile ecosystem. It is a registered stakeholder in the EU consultations for textile sustainability legislation. In that context it works with the European Commission and other stakeholders to develop an effective and feasible regulatory framework. It promotes machinery technology to enable a sustainable textiles ecosystem via the sponsoring of the ITMA sustainability forum as well as the ITMA Industry excellence award for sustainable textile technology.

Europe has well developed and effective technical regulation for machine safety and sustainability, though enforcement is uneven over the EU. That distorts a level playing field for competition on the EU market. CEMATEX works with member states’ market surveillance authorities, the EU Commission and stakeholders to tighten market surveillance for textile machinery.

The European textile machinery industry is truly globally oriented. CEMATEX supports its members by lobbying to overturn trade barriers (tariff as well as non-tariff ones) and works with the EU Commission to enable and safeguard international market access.

Given the majority of the CEMATEX membership’s turnover is realized overseas in markets like Bangladesh, Indian, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey … competitiveness versus machinery producers from China, India and Turkey is essential to the survival of its members. Therefore, CEMATEX works with like minded industry stakeholders to urge EU member states and EU regulators to roll out a regulatory and fiscal framework that restores the EU’s industry competitiveness.

The core competence of the EU textile machinery industry is its ability to innovate. The day-to-day job is to improve and come up with better, faster, more efficient and more sustainable textile production technology. It is what drives the industry to survive amid an evermore competitive landscape. CEMATEX stimulates the cooperation between its members and textile technology research institutes. It sponsors start-up companies to bring their products to the market and sponsors research institutes to find industry partners to make their research findings market ready.
