Cematex calls for more ambitious EU Trade Defence

CEMATEX has joined a broad coalition of 44 European industry organizations calling on the support of EU member states and EU Commission for more ambitious EU Trade Defence via:

1. The immediate strengthening of DG TRADE to allow for quicker opening and concluding of trade investigations to ensure rules-based competition,

2. Immediately use Trade Defence Instruments (TDIs) such as anti-dumping , anti-subsidy and safeguards more effectively,

3. Propose a new policy toolkit to address state-driven distortions.

Like many EU industrial sectors, the European textile machinery industry is affected by a dangerous cocktail of loss in competitiveness and 3th countries’ state-driven distortions that causes our EU industrial ecosystem much harm. Together with 44 European industry organizations, representing complete value chains from steel & other raw materials, to electronics, machinery and final products such as textiles and plastics, this plea for more effective EU Trade defence is brought to the President of the EU Commission Ursula Von der Leyen and Stephane Séjourné, the EU’s executive vice president for Industrial strategy. The message is brought to the EU’s Commission leadership at moment of their high level talks with China on balancing the trade relations.
