Is there any future for Product Environmental Footprint for Apparel under the Ecodesign Regulation?

The Joint Research Center of the European Commission recently published its intermediate report to be used as inspiration for the European Commission while drafting the Delegated Act to implement the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) for Apparel. In the study, the idea for a voluntary Product Environment Footprint (PEF)/ Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) information requirement for the textile manufacturing stage in the context of ESPR is proposed. That is welcomed by the EU textile machinery industry. Though, with the current obstacles for effective PEF rollout, our industry believes that the use of a voluntary PCF information requirement is more realistic. At the time of enforcement, there should be effective market surveillance. For more detail, please see our position paper.
